The era of "zero" was marked by many bright events. Among other things, at this time in the domestic show business, distinctive pop groups began to appear, which in record could be at the top of the charts.
They were successful, vibrant, popular, and the army of their fans seemed to always be that way. However, time is inexorable, and today we hear almost nothing about many of them. Yesterday’s idols remained in the background of the history of Russian pop music, and new young talents came in their place.
Today we decided to recall the bright bands of the 2000s. What are they doing and what do the soloists look like now?
10. Arrows
This domestic pop group existed from 1997 to 2006. The calling card “Shooter” was the song “You Left Me” and “At a Best Friends Party”. The first composition of the group was original, some music critics more than once compared it with the then-famous American pop group “Spice girls”.
However, at the beginning of the two thousandths in the group, a series of replacements began, because of which fans did not even have time to remember the new soloists of the group. In addition, the group did not have new singles that could compare in popularity with those that the group performed in the late 90s.
In the horizon of the domestic show business of the beginning of the 2000s, bright female groups began to appear on the stage, whose success overshadowed the Strelok, once adored by the public.
In August 2015, Strelka reunited in a gold roster. To this day, they perform songs that were popular in the late 90s - early 2000s, but now their fame is supported only by the memories of their fans.
9. Plazma
This is a domestic group performing songs in genres from synth-pop and euro dance to pop-rock. This musical group was one of the first on the Russian stage to start creating singles in English for a Russian-speaking audience.
The group gained popularity after the release of their first single “Take My Love”. The first two albums of the group were sold in more than 1 million copies.
The group to this day continues to exist and even release new singles, however, the popularity that the group had at the beginning of the two thousandths has long ceased to exist.
8. The virus
The soloist and creator of the group is Olga Kozina, better known to the public as Olga Laki. The debut single “Don’t look for me” was released in 1999 and immediately found itself in leading positions in all music charts. Other no less popular hits of the group were songs: “Pens”, “I Will Ask You”, “Happiness”, etc.
Currently, the group is actively touring and releasing new singles, although now their popularity is difficult to compare with the one that the group had during their heyday.
7. Demo
This pop group was created in 1998. A year later, vocalist Alexandra Zvereva came to the musical collective. The main hit of the group is the song “The Sun”.
A previously known group exists now, however, instead of Zvereva, who left work in the group in 2011, her main vocalist is Daria Pobedonostseva.
6. The roots
This popular in 2000 pop-rock group consisted of the winners of the first season of the first talent show “Star Factory” on Russian television.
This team was very popular 8-10 years ago. The guys toured extensively, released albums, and all young people knew by heart the songs “Birch” cried, “I lose roots”, “You will know her”.
However, in 2010, the contract with Matvienko expired and the producer decided not to continue cooperation with the group. From that moment, the popularity of “Roots” began to decline sharply.
The group finally broke up in 2012, and its recognized stars - Alexander Astashonok and Pavel Artemyev left the team even earlier.
5. Inveterate scammers
This Russian pop group was created in 1996. The group included Sergey Amoralov, Tom Chaos Jr. and Garik. According to the group’s central soloist Sergei Amoralov, this boy’s band was the first in the entire post-Soviet space to rap music to dance music.
All three vocalists of the group are quite charismatic personalities who looked harmoniously on stage together, and it was difficult for fans to imagine one of them as an independent artist.
However, in 2011, Garik Bogomazov decided to leave the group and pursue a solo career. His place was taken by Andrei Repnikov. As a result, neither Bogomazov’s independent career, nor the group itself in recent years can again repeat the success of their fans, which was in the late 90s - early 2000s.
4. Tattoo
The group was founded in 1999. At first, the creators of the team did everything to maintain the scandalous image of the group: provocative clips, with a touch of lesbian relations, and defiant behavior of the soloists did their job.
But, despite this, Tatu is considered the most successful Russian pop group, whose fame went far beyond the post-Soviet space. Singles of the group, both English and Russian, were the leaders of domestic charts.
In 2004, the participants stopped collaborating with their producer.
In 2009, the soloists of the group decided to start solo musical activity. However, not one of them managed to approach the success of Tatu on their own.
3. Propaganda
This female musical group was founded in 2001. At first, the group had a teenage orientation, but after a few years, the soloists outwardly changed: teenage plain clothes were replaced by sexy costumes that emphasize feminine forms. This new “adulthood” was reflected in the work of the group.
Over the years, the group has released a large number of songs that occupied leading positions in all hit pairs, including “Mel”, “Who”, “Apples ate”, etc.
The author and performer of almost all the singles was Victoria Voronina, who decided to leave the band in 2010. After this event, there was a sharp decline in the popularity of the group's songs. Now the team is touring with a new line-up.
2. The Prime Minister
In 2002, this musical group, consisting of four vocalists, represented the Russian Federation at the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Northern Girl”. In the same year, the team released the single “Two Diamonds”.
In 2006, due to contradictions with the producer, all four members of the group began to work separately, however, since the “Prime Minister” brand belonged to the producer, they had to take a different name for their team, so they became known as “PM Group”. But, even such a move did not help the guys regain their former popularity.
1. Paints
The Belarusian musical group called “Colors” was created in Minsk in 2001. The song “Big Brother”, known at that time, which became the group's debut single, was recognized as one of the most recognizable domestic hits in the last 20 years.
At present, the soloist has changed in the group. They continue to tour mainly with songs of past years, however, this group no longer has the popularity that this group had in the 2000s.
