The science fiction of director Christopher Nolan in 2014 turned out to be successful in every sense: Interstellar was kindly criticized, recouped the budget and earned a decent top, received an Oscar for special effects, and there was no need to talk about spectator enthusiasm.
It’s a joke, even some scientists praised the picture for realistically (by the standards of Hollywood, of course) space shown and a description of black holes.
Interstellar is not the first, and certainly not the last of its kind, and we have selected a list of films that are as similar in spirit and style as possible. Of course, they don’t have a proprietary "Nolan" atmosphere, but otherwise they are very worthy works, like a masterpiece of Nolan.

10. Gravity, 2013
Alfonso Cuarona's film was released a year earlier than Interstellar and was shown at the 70th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival.
The story of two astronauts trying to return to Earth after an accident in outer space turned out to be chamber, sincere and incredibly beautiful.
There are only two actors in the frame, but of which: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney (behind the scenes says Ed Harris).
Almost all publications included the film in the top 3 best according to the results of the year, noting first of all the excellent graphics and the work done by Cuaron.
Gravity received 7 Oscars (plus 3 nominations) and 6 BAFTA, earning $ 723 million at a global box office with a budget of 100 million.
9. Pandorum, 2009
Two astronauts emerge from a state of artificial sleep on a spaceship aboard which sleeps another 60,000 passengers.
Heroes must change another pair and take control of the flights, but cannot contact anyone. Neither with command, nor with crew members.
In an already not joyful situation, the conversation goes about Pandorum - a mental disorder due to prolonged sleep. The disease manifests itself in the form of paranoia, schizophrenia and ... realistic hallucinations.
The film was shot by a little-known German director Christian Alvart, starring Ben Foster, Dennis Quaid, Cam Gigandet and Norman Reedus.
Given the modest, by the standards of the science fiction genre, budget of $ 33 million, visually up to Interstellar or Gravity Pandorum does not hold out, but in a twisted plot it can subsequently compete on an equal footing.
8. 2001: Space Odyssey, 1968
Iconic director Stanley Kubrick with his film 2001: A Space Odyssey not just earned +100 reputation points, but literally ahead of his time.
Technically and ideologically, the film for 1968 turned out to be out of the ordinary. Now he is considered the best science fiction in Hollywood history according to the US Film Institute, and film critics consider him the best in principle, outside the genre.
This is not even a film, but a milestone in the development of cinema, which in many respects predetermined its further development.
The plot tells of a group of astronauts flying to Jupiter. A mysterious monolith discovered on the moon emits radiation towards this planet, so it was decided to find out what it is. Previously, such a monolith was found on Earth; the result set by someone at the dawn of mankind influenced the course of evolution.
7. Martian, 2015
Ridley Scott’s film is bad from a scientific point of view, since the events shown are impossible in real space, but there is Matt Damon and a fascinating presentation of the story.
The astronaut, whom the crew of the ship considered dead and left on Mars, survived and now he will have to wait all alone to be rescued.
It takes a long time to wait, and there is not much provision in a small research module. Therefore, he will have to become the first to grow potatoes on the red planet, and also try not to lose his mind.
Despite some tape overload "Martian" scientific and technical information (not always reliable), it was submitted so fascinatingly that it became one of the main "chips". For this, you should thank Ridley Scott, who was sitting in the director's chair, as well as Damon, who managed to get used to the image that was not quite familiar to him.
6. Apollo 13, 1995
Phrase "Houston, we have a problem", Used everywhere throughout the world, is the slogan of this film, so even if you did not watch it, you heard about it in absentia.
Successful flights of the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 ships have become one of the greatest stages in space exploration, but Apollo 13 almost became a disaster.
The plot of the film fully (albeit with some inaccuracies) repeats real events: the ship must deliver astronauts to the moon, however, an accident occurs on it. Because of her, disembarkation becomes impossible, as well as the planned return home.
Now NASA and the crew have to develop a new plan on the go to bring people back alive. Starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton and Ed Harris, and directed everything by Tom Howard.
5. Moon 2112, 2009
Film “Moon 2112” attracted attention even before the release: firstly, Duncan Jones, who was the son of David Bowie and did not remove anything before, was appointed director, and secondly, $ 5 million of the budget for science fiction is, frankly, a small amount. The result surprised and pleased everyone, as it turned out even better than intended.
The astronaut in the near future is working all alone on the moon and will soon go home, but everything is not going according to plan. Due to prolonged loneliness, he begins to see hallucinations and gets into an accident.
Having gone inside himself, he does not remember anything about the incident, but having suspected something was amiss, he begins to dig and finds a double who is sure that he is the real one.
4. Armageddon, 1998
Michael Bay's film with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler and others is a true classic of the late 90's.
A chic soundtrack from Steve Tyler and Aerosmith (Liv's father), in a good way pathos heroes and a well-chosen plot made "Armageddon" a picture for all time.
A total of $ 553 million was a well-deserved reward for Touchstone Pictures.
3. Hell, 2007
The events of the tape unfold in 2057, when the Sun began to go blank and the Earth was on the verge of disaster. A ship with a bomb is sent to the heavenly luminary, hoping to “restart” it with an explosion, but the flight of last hope is not going as planned.
It is noteworthy that "Hell" Danny Boyle took off in just 3 months, but for the writing of the script and the subsequent installation in total it took 2 years.
2. Man on the moon, 2018
The latest film in our selection was shot by Damien Chazell in 2018, and it was based on the biography of Neil Armstrong - the first person to set foot on the surface of the moon.
The main role was played by Ryan Gosling, already working with Chazelle (La La Land 2016). Biopic “Man on the moon” attractive in that it does not try to let the drama out of the blue and expose real events in a different light. Everything is shown as it was in fact, which was confirmed by eyewitnesses of that flight and NASA documents.
1. Europe, 2013
A wealthy private corporation equips an expedition to the sixth moon of Jupiter, named Europe. The crew's goal is to scout the situation, as there is a possibility that the planet is suitable for life.
The flight is unsuccessful and the crew dies, and the film is presented in the form of slicing video files shot by team members and provided with comments by the people who led this mission.
With a modest budget of less than $ 10 million, you should not expect a cool visual component from the tape, but it can boast of amazing realism: a minimum of omissions and “stocks” with a huge amount of reliable information about space.
